The Andrean Girls Tennis Team comprised of four doubles teams competed on Saturday at Highland High School for their Doubles Invitational. Other teams competing were Bishop Noll Institute, Highland High School and Whiting High School.
Leading the way for Andrean was the #2 Doubles team of Cat Hrinda 11/ Sophia Sainato-Pinkie taking first place giving them 3 points. They beat Whiting’s 2nd Doubles team Ana Strezo 12/Rene Patton 12 6-1, 6-1, Bishop Noll’s Doubles team Suley Acuchiutt/Rebecca Carlos 6-1, 6-0, and Highland’s 2nd Doubles team Grace Bedka 11/Bri Ozelie 10 6-2, 6-4.
Following their teammates lead the #4 Doubles team of Tijana Tomic 9/Peyton Mori 9 won first place for another 3 points. They beat Whiting’s team of Kristin Pearson 10/Taylor Patton 9 6-2, 6-1, Highland’s team Ryli Letki 11/Madi Haug 11 6-3, 7-6. Bishop Noll’s Soriyah Casicino/Aleni Vasquez 6-1, 6-0.
The #3 Doubles team of Hayley Antczak 11/ Hannah Preslin 11 won two of their three matches adding 2 more points to the the 59er’s tally. They beat Whiting’s 2 Doubles team of Briana Weston 10/Daniella Jimenez 9 6-0, 6-1, and Bishops Noll’s Itzury Becerra/Laura Bautista 6-0, 6-0. They lost to Highland’s team Emma Galocy 11/Leah Stone10 6-2, 6-2.
Representing #1 Doubles for Andrean were Freshman #1 & #2 singles players Lillie Borzenski and Leah Stanich. They brought in 1 point beating Bishop Noll’s Carmelina Komayatte/Melissa Carlos 6-1, 6-1.
Victory was sealed for the 59ers, when Highland High School’s #1and #2 Doubles team fell to Whiting High School. Highland High School’s total score of 8 fell short of Andrean’s 9. Third place went to Whiting High School.
The Lady 59ers travel Tuesday for their next conference dual match against Munster High School.
