A familiar face to 59er soccer fans returns to the pitch this fall as Jeff Samels has been hired as the new Andrean girls soccer coach. Samels, who has 25 years of coaching experience, was previously an assistant coach with the program and was on the staff when the team won state in 2016 and went back to the finals in 2017. “I am very fortunate and extremely excited to be returning to coach the Lady Niners soccer team, this time as Head Coach,” Samels said. “I am looking forward to meeting the team and beginning to prepare for next season.” With his previous experience in coaching Andrean soccer, Samels is familiar with the traditions and success of the program, and is prepared for the hard work it takes to live up to those lofty expectations. “It is always a pleasure to work with the team as they impress me with their hard work, intelligence, dedication and competitive spirit,” Samels said. “We plan to carry on the tradition this upcoming season, always working on our technical skills, understanding of the game and being competitive. We have much to do to prepare for the upcoming season and I believe we are up to the task to reach our goals.” Samels not only has impressive coaching credentials at the high school, collegiate and club level, but was an outstanding player during his career. He was the captain of the Munster soccer team his senior year of high school and led the team in steals. His Mustang career earned him a full scholarship to play collegiate soccer at IUPUI where he was named to the Indiana College All-State team his junior and senior years, while also being team captain his senior year. Samels is still one of the top five points scorers in IUPUI men’s soccer history. The 2024 Andrean girls soccer season is currently scheduled to start on August 20th as the team hosts Highland.
