MERRILLVILLE, IN – More children die from cancer in the United States than any other disease. Andrean High School’s Football team has teamed up with the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation’s Vs. Cancer program to change this. Throughout the season, the team is raising awareness and funds for kids with cancer, and they will celebrate their efforts on September 20th with their Vs. Cancer awareness game.

Started by a pediatric brain cancer survivor and former collegiate baseball player, Vs. Cancer empowers any sports team, any athlete, and any community to help kids with cancer. As a signature fundraising campaign of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, Vs. Cancer proceeds help fund child life programs in local hospitals and groundbreaking research to cure pediatric brain tumors, the deadliest childhood cancer.

In partnership with Vs. Cancer, the Andrean High School Football team has selected the Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana to receive a portion of the funds they raise. Andrean Football will also honor Andrean graduate, Katie Crandol, a brain cancer survivor, and her family at their Vs. Cancer awareness game.

Head Football Coach Chris Skinner is looking forward to this partnership with Vs. Cancer. “It is easy to take for granted all the blessings in our lives – especially that we are part of the Andrean Football program. We are blessed to participate in such a rewarding sport. As part of the Andrean Family, it is our mission to help and serve those in need. Vs. Cancer provides us with an opportunity to help children and families that are devastated by this disease. We hope those individuals suffering will one day have the opportunity to live their life cancer-free.”

Dave Mays, campaign manager of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation’s Central region, understands how vital these athletes are to the nonprofit’s mission. “We applaud the efforts and generous spirit of Andrean’s Football team! Vs. Cancer wasn’t just built by athletes for athletes. We were started by a pediatric brain cancer survivor, and we see every day how important family support and research are for children to thrive. With the support of this incredible team, we’re fighting for healthier, happier futures for these kids!”
