Boys Varsity Tennis · Mary O’Connor Named Head Coach of Boys Tennis


Mary O’Connor is a certified USPTA Tennis Professional with over 25 years of teaching
experience.

Originally from Aurora, IL, Mary was a Midwest Junior ranked player and held the #1
ranking in Girls 16’s and Girls 18’s for the Northern Illinois Tennis Association. She
represented the NITA 3 years in row in the Midwest Junior Wightman Cup. She maintained
her WSCC Conference and IHSA District titles and was an IHSA State Qualifier all four of her
high school years.

Her previous teaching experience includes The Aurora Tennis Club, The Aurora Country
Club, Rush-Copley Health Plex in Aurora, McDowell Mountain Ranch in Scottsdale, AZ and
the Courts of NWI in Valparaiso.

Passionate in her lifetime sport, Mary continues to compete at the USTA 5.0 level. She
competed recently at the United States Tennis Association’s National Grass Court
Championships in Forest Hills, NY where she reached the top 8 in Women’s 50 Singles and
finished 2nd in Women’s 30 Doubles. She is currently ranked 38th in the nation in 50
Singles and 6th in 30 Doubles.

She has most recently enjoyed being the Assistant Coach of the Crown Point High School
Boys Tennis Team and continues as the Head Coach of the Middle School Coed Tennis Team
for Valparaiso schools. She currently provides instruction and coaching for all ages in
Valparaiso and at the Northwest Athletic Club in Michigan City.

Mary’s true spirit in the sport can be seen through the enjoyment of the game she shares
with her students. “There is nothing more rewarding than inspiring and encouraging the
discipline of the sport and building the self-esteem of our youth.”
