MERRILLVILLE, IN – More children die from cancer in the United States than any other disease. Andrean High School’s Baseball team has teamed up with the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation’s Vs. Cancer program to change this. Throughout the season, the team is raising awareness and funds for kids with cancer, and they will celebrate their efforts on May 4th with their Vs. Cancer awareness game.
Started by pediatric brain cancer survivor and former collegiate baseball player Chase Jones, Vs. Cancer empowers any sports team, any athlete, and any community to help kids with cancer. As a signature fundraising campaign of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, Vs. Cancer proceeds help fund child life programs in local hospitals and groundbreaking research to cure pediatric brain tumors, the deadliest childhood cancer.
In partnership with Vs. Cancer, the Andrean High School Baseball team has selected the pediatric oncology unit at Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago to receive a portion of the funds they raise.
Andrean’s Head Coach Dave Pishkur is excited about the opportunity to raise awareness about this deadly childhood cancer. “We are excited to partner with Vs. Cancer. Money raised by Andrean’s baseball team and its community will directly benefit the research and care required to get closer to ending this terrible disease. Our kids are lucky to play this game. We hope that a family suffering through this can have that same luck as us some day to watch their kid live cancer free and play some baseball.”
Dave Mays, campaign manager of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation’s Central region, understands how vital these athletes are to the nonprofit’s mission. “We applaud the efforts and generous spirit of Andrean’s Baseball team! Vs. Cancer wasn’t just built by athletes for athletes. We were started by a pediatric brain cancer survivor, and we see every day how important family support and research are for children to thrive. With the support of this incredible team, we’re fighting for healthier, happier futures for these kids!”
